BELIEVING IN TINKERBELL

It’s not the kind of thing you want to go around telling people; “Hi, my name is Elana, and I believe in fairies.”

In fact, I cringe a little every time I say it, in expectation of ridicule and social backlash.

“Crazy.” “Gullible.” “Foolish.”Ridiculous.”

…all words I’ve grown used to hearing after having shared my story.

So why am I telling you?

The dull answer is that I made a commitment to myself to be authentic, and that requires me to tell you my truth.

But the FUN answer is that it’s that I’ve had many mind-blowing experiences that have left me awestruck, and I want to share them with you, fairies, and all.

How did I start believing in fairies, you ask? I can tell you this; it was not a gradual belief that took root and started to grow. It was a “Wham!”, “In your face”, “All of a sudden” belief that I had no choice but to accept.

It happened in Sarasota, Florida.

I was visiting a friend who had moved there a couple years prior. When we met,  we were both living in Charleston, SC, and discovered that we shared an interest in spirituality and the paranormal. Often I did readings for her, and she shared stories of some of the mysterious things she had encountered.

On the night that it happened, we were sitting outside by the pool in the dark. Aside from the fact that it was a beautiful, warm night, with many stars in the sky, there was nothing particularly special about it.

We had been talking for about thirty minutes when something overhead caught my eye. It was a lime-green, glowing object that was flying by us and then disappeared into the trees about ten feet away.

Well, it wasn’t flying so much as fluttering, and it wasn’t shaped like a bird. Its wings were on its back, rather than on its sides, and sort of dangled, in an upright position, with its legs hanging down.

As I watched it cross the sky above us, I found myself saying, “That’s a fairy!”

But that’s “crazy”, I thought. And, though I wasn’t alone, my friend never looked up and completely missed the whole thing.

I told her what I had seen, but the experience was mine, alone.

Later I went inside and decided to look for some kind of explanation. I Googled “green, glowing birds”, and “green glowing insects in Florida”...”green glowing” anything, but my search brought me no greater understanding.

Ultimately, I was left with only a mental image of the green, glowing fairy that crossed the sky like Tinkerbell had in Peter Pan, and my grasp of the fact that we live in a multi-dimensional universe, with many different realms that coexist, often unaware of the other beings that are right there with us.

On that night, my energy must have been at just the right frequency to enable me to blend with another realm and see the magical, green fairy that changed my life.

So, you see, though I’ve given this story the name, “Believing in Tinkerbell”, it could just as reasonably been called, “My Coming Out Story”, because here, and now, I am coming out as a full-blown believer in fairies, angels, spirits, E.S.P., other-worldly dimensions, and most things paranormal.
